10 years after the sterilization requirement for trans people – what now?

Ten years ago, Norway passed a bill that allowed trans people to change their legal gender status without a sterilisation requirement. During this year’s memorial speech for July 25th, health minister Jan Christian Vestre acknowledged that the current healthcare situation for trans people is not good enough. We invite to a panel discussion with researchers who have experience with trans peoples rights to healthcare in Norway, in order to discuss today’s situation and the future.

The event will start with a short introduction to the topic, before a panel conversation with the participants. There will be an opportunity to ask questions to the panel. After the panel conversation is finished, there will be time for hanging out and mingling. The panel conversation is in English.

The event is held in DIGS coffee shop, where you can buy drinks and food during the event.

Panelists:

Dr. france rose hartline (he/him) is a researcher and artist. He wrote his doctoral thesis about the norwegian Gender Recognition Act.

Isak Løberg Jacobsen (he/they) is a Ph.D.-Candidate at the Center for Gender Research, NTNU. His research centers transmasculine people’s reproductive rights and choices in Norway.

Martine Sletten (she/her) is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for Gender Studies, NTNU. In 2021 she handed in her thesis about the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s national guideline for gender incongruence.
